Finally a guitar that’s older than me, and what a cool guitar it is…a circa 1939 Gretsch Model 35.This guitar is a survivor. It’s got a big fat neck that plays beautifully. Our illustrious tech, John Bertsche had to give this old girl some TLC to get her up and playing well again. She has had her neck reset and her frets replaced. She will never win a prize in a beauty contest but she sounds wonderful and plays like a dream. If you are looking for an acoustic archtop guitar and love that “real relic” look, this is the one for you. These old Gretsches were built like tanks with a carved solid spruce top, a rosewood adjustable bridge, ebony fingerboard, and a rosewood veneered headstock. This model 35 has ivoroid binding as well as perloid binding next to it around the top of the guitar, and it is in surprisingly good condition. We’ve seen a few prettier examples but we’re fairly certain they will all need a neck reset and a fret job. On this old girl, it’s already been done for you…and done beautifully I might add. This piece of history will ship in its equally old hard shell case and will be professionally packed with great care.

This guitar is one of three early 1950’s Fender Esquires recently acquired by We Buy Guitars. These guitars were truly the beginning for Leo and his fledgling company. They were introduced in June of 1950 and at that time were routed for two pickups, but only (for the most part) sold with one. This one is a 1950. The first official year! After all these many years in the vintage guitar business, We Buy Guitars is still in awe when we see such a beautiful example with its beautiful form fit case.

Here we have another first year Esquire. Fender actually did make a prototype in 1949, but 1950 was the first year they actually mass produced it and sold it to the public. Although this 61 year old was played a bit she has aged beautifully.
