1956 Fender Electric Mandolin "Mandocaster"

Traditional acoustic mandolins usually have four double courses of strings. The Fender electric mandolin only has four single strings. It looks like a mini-stratocaster and was even nick-named the mandocaster. They were made by Fender from early 1956 until they were discontinued in 1976. The Fender Company had a close proximity to Bakersfield, California. Bakersfield was called by many, ďthe Nashville of the West.Ē Since there were many country pickers around, Leo Fender used these great players as a testing ground for his new and exciting instruments. Itís no wonder that the electric mandolin was produced. This example is from the first year of production, 1956. It is finished in blonde and sports a gold anodized pick guard. It comes with its own small tweed case.

Shell Pink

Reference# F10E1101

Up until a few years ago, even some of the sages of the Vintage Guitar world seem to have doubted the existence of the Fender custom color, Shell Pink. We purchased this ďone-of-a-kind Shell Pink Esquire from its original owner. His Mom had purchased it new and got $10 off the sticker price because the color was a little bit too girlie for her son. This guitar is truly the rarest of the rare!

As most aficionados and collectors of vintage guitars are aware, custom color instruments are extremely collectible and sought after. Early on in Fenderís history, they did not offer custom color instruments in their catalog. They did however make some one-off custom color guitars for famous artists of the time and possibly for trade shows as well. This particular guitar is a prime example. While we donít know for whom it was made or why, we do know it is a real beauty and also that King Midas would have loved her. Feast your eyes on this all original 1956 Fender Stratocaster in a Gold finish! This guitar is in amazing condition and what an unforgettable stage guitar this would have been to see back in the Ď50ís.
